A French luxury skincare house known for $1,000 facial creams is staking its first Massachusetts claim on one of Boston's most storied shopping blocks. Sisley Paris plans to open a Maison Sisley location at 31-33 Charles Street, a corner storefront in Beacon Hill, with the brand targeting a mid-November opening even as the exact date remains unfinalized.
The move marks the first Sisley Paris Maison in Massachusetts, according to WhatNow, which reported that the company plans to open its first permanent boutique and spa in the state. The 892-square-foot space sits at a prominent corner footprint rounding Chestnut Street, with two ground-level entrances and extensive plate-glass display windows, according to local real estate writer William Montero. The same high-visibility storefront was previously home to a Benefit Cosmetics Boutique & Browbar, per Montero's reporting.
Beacon Hill's Historic Review Process
Before Sisley could move in, the project needed to clear Boston's historic preservation process. In January and February 2026, the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission reviewed design proposals for the address and issued approvals for new blade signage, exterior awnings, and repainting the ground-level facade jet black, according to meeting records posted on Boston.gov. Charles Street falls within the historic Beacon Hill district, where municipal architectural review guidelines govern exterior changes to storefronts housed in 19th-century brick townhouses.
That stretch of Charles Street runs between Boston Common and Massachusetts General Hospital and functions as the neighborhood's central commercial avenue, drawing a mix of affluent residents, neighborhood professionals, and luxury-minded tourists, according to Celebrate Boston. Montero's reporting notes that commercial turnover along the corridor brought several new luxury retail and food concepts to Charles Street throughout 2026, placing Sisley's arrival within a broader wave of upscale openings on the block.
Apartment-Style Spa With Treatment Rooms
Inside, Maison Sisley Boston will combine luxury beauty offerings with personalized treatments inside an apartment-style setting designed to feel intimate and inviting, per WhatNow's reporting. The space will include a private treatment room for signature Sisley Paris treatments and bespoke beauty consultations, along with a dedicated consultation station for Hair Rituel by Sisley, which will offer personalized hair-care recommendations and dry hair styling. Makeup applications will also be available upon request, and guests will receive personalized recommendations and expert advice after each treatment.
Sisley Paris said its Maisons welcome guests in exceptional settings that elevate the art of beauty treatments, the company told WhatNow. The brand added that it will announce more details about the Boston location in the coming weeks, and interested guests can sign up to receive an official invitation ahead of the spa's autumn debut.
Part of a Broader U.S. Expansion
Boston joins a short list of American cities where Sisley operates standalone Maisons and boutiques, including New York, Miami's Design District, Palm Beach, Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood, Las Vegas, and Dallas, the brand indicates on its own site. The company's first standalone U.S. flagship opened in June 2023, when Sisley debuted a 2,675-square-foot Maison in Manhattan's Meatpacking District after closing its former Bleecker Street boutique, according to Glossy. That flagship was designed as a multi-room spa and retail experience reflecting the founding d'Ornano family's art collection, Glossy reported. Worldwide, the brand now counts 28 Maison locations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
At its U.S. Maisons, Sisley's signature 60-minute to 90-minute facial and body treatments typically run between $225 and $350, while retail products range from $60 to more than $1,000, according to Glossy's reporting. Beyond its own Maisons, Sisley Paris maintains nearly 8,000 points of sale worldwide and is sold at retailers including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, and Bluemercury, per WhatNow.
A Family Legacy Behind the Brand
Sisley Paris was founded in 1976 by Hubert and Isabelle d'Ornano, who purchased and relaunched the brand that year, according to WhatNow's reporting. Hubert d'Ornano came from cosmetics royalty: his father, Guillaume d'Ornano, helped found Lancôme and created the Orlane brand with his family. Hubert launched Sisley, according to Logos-World. The company pioneered what it calls phytocosmetology, built around plant extracts and essential oils in its skincare line.
Isabelle d'Ornano remains involved in the brand's creative direction today, and the company continues to operate as a family-led business. Hubert d'Ornano died in 2015; Philippe d'Ornano became president in 2013. The privately held French company has a global presence.
The brand's product lineup spans skincare, makeup, fragrance, and hair care, all built around botanical extracts developed with advanced research and technology, per WhatNow. Makeup has grown into a bigger share of that business in recent years, reportedly climbing to nearly 30 percent of Sisley Paris's total global sales by 2023, up from about 20 percent before 2020, alongside rapid growth in the Hair Rituel line, according to Glossy's reporting — a shift that helps explain why the incoming Boston store is being built around dedicated makeup application and hair consultation stations rather than skincare alone.
