Laura Anglade will step into the spotlight as a headliner in the Bay Area for the first time Monday, bringing her Brooklyn-based jazz quartet to Yoshi's in Oakland for a 7:30 p.m. show. The French-born vocalist, whose career has spanned Montreal's jazz clubs, Paris's L'Olympia and a recent Juno Awards honor, will play four Bay Area dates over five days, spotlighting music from her new album, “Something's Coming.”

According to East Bay Times, Anglade will perform four Bay Area concerts between Oct. 26 and Oct. 30, following an appearance in the region this past June as a special guest with pianist Joey Alexander. The Yoshi's show carries ticket prices of $30 to $59, according to Oaklandside, which lists the performance for Monday at 7 p.m. and notes that tracks from her prior album, “Get Out of Town,” including “Manhattan” and “April in Paris,” are drawn from the Great American Songbook.

A Touring Life That Started in Montreal

Anglade was born in the south of France and spent her early years moving around Asia because of her father's work and her parents' travel, per the East Bay Times report, before the family settled in Connecticut by the time she was 5. She studied with voice teacher Matthew Surapine in high school, who connected her with New York jazz pianist David Lahm, the paper reports. She later moved to Montreal to major in translation at Concordia University while taking jazz classes at McGill University, beginning to build a name on the Montreal jazz scene roughly a decade before the East Bay Times profile was published.

That trajectory eventually carried her through Toronto, where she relocated in 2021, and then to Brooklyn in 2024, according to the same report. Along the way she released her 2019 debut album, “I've Got Just About Everything,” on Justin Time, and has since toured in support of Melody Gardot and Gregory Porter and headlined festivals across the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Europe, per San Jose Jazz. She has also appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Kelly Clarkson Show, the East Bay Times notes, and San Jose Jazz specifically points to her performance of the Rodgers and Hart standard “Manhattan” on Colbert's “Late Show Me Music” series.

Juno Recognition and a New Record

Anglade's profile has risen alongside a string of honors. San Jose Jazz reports that her 2022 release, “Venez Donc Chez Moi,” earned a Juno nomination, and that she received the Prix Opus for Jazz Concert of the Year in 2023. The East Bay Times reports that “Get Out of Town” won Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at Canada's 2026 Juno Awards, and French outlet Pozzo Live and Jazz in the Bay also describe the album as a Juno winner.

Her current tour celebrates the release of “Something's Coming,” a new album the East Bay Times says she will spotlight on this run. Per Pozzo Live, the record is scheduled for release Nov. 13 through Nettwerk and blends American standards, Broadway musicals and Brazilian rhythms. Jazziz Discovery, writing about her previous release, noted that “Get Out of Town” wove eleven classic songs into a cinematic story of love and self-discovery, with Anglade telling the outlet, “I visualize each song as if it were a monologue in a film.”

The Band Behind the Songbook

Anglade's working New York combo features pianist, accordionist and arranger Ben Rosenblum, along with bassist Jonathan Chapman and drummer Ben Zweig, according to the East Bay Times, and the group has performed together around the world. Rosenblum told the paper that the accordion connects to Anglade's French roots and also works well on the album's Brazilian material. He described the ensemble as a collective endeavor where everyone contributes ideas, and said Anglade conceived a samba arrangement of “Something to Remember You By” that shifts the song from heartbreak toward something more sentimental.

That collaborative instinct traces back to how Anglade approaches a song in the first place. She has said she prioritizes the lyric, message and acting of a tune, staying close to its melody on a first pass, per the East Bay Times, which also describes her repertoire as spanning French chanson alongside a musical-theater background.

Where to Catch Her Across the Bay Area

After Oakland, Anglade heads to San Jose Jazz's Break Room on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m., with tickets at $27, the East Bay Times reports. She then plays Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., with tickets ranging from $34.97 to $36.75. The run closes Oct. 30 at Livermore's Bankhead Theater at 8 p.m., a show the East Bay Times reports is already sold out — part of the new Club Bankhead Jazz Series that Livermore Valley Arts announced earlier this year would feature Anglade alongside artists including Gabrielle Cavassa. The venue's own event page describes her as having performed on stages including Paris's L'Olympia, London's Royal Festival Hall and New York's Town Hall.
