A bullet hole and a projectile turned up inside a home in the 6300 block of Carolina Avenue in Glen Burnie, sending Anne Arundel County Police's Northern District officers to the Weymouth Ridge neighborhood around 1:30 p.m. this past Sunday to investigate what happened. Investigators believe the shooting actually occurred earlier that same day; the occupants had already discovered the bullet hole and recovered the projectile before officers responded to a report of past suspicious circumstances.
Discovery Inside a Weymouth Ridge Home
According to WBFF, the occupants found the bullet hole and recovered the projectile inside the residence, prompting a call to police. The home sits within Weymouth Ridge, a residential subdivision located about a mile from the local police station, according to Patch. No details have been released about exactly where in the house the bullet struck or how close anyone came to being hit.
Northern District detectives are now asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Those with knowledge of what happened can call 410-222-6135, and the report notes investigators have not said whether the gunfire was a stray shot or a targeted strike at the property.
What Charges Could Follow
If investigators identify a shooter, state law gives prosecutors a clear charging path. Under Maryland Criminal Law Code § 3-204, recklessly engaging in conduct that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury — including discharging a firearm into an occupied home — is a misdemeanor punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, per the Maryland General Assembly. Separately, Maryland Natural Resources Code § 10-410 provides a 100-yard safety zone around occupied dwellings when hunting with archery equipment in Anne Arundel County.
A Pattern of Gunfire Hitting Occupied Property
This is not the first time this year that gunfire has struck an occupied space in northern Anne Arundel County. In September, a 40-year-old Baltimore man was arrested after a gunshot allegedly struck the rear window of an occupied vehicle on the I-695 Outer Loop, a case Hoodline previously reported in which investigators located the suspect's vehicle.
Resources Behind the Investigation
Anyone with information can also reach the Anne Arundel County Police tip line directly at 410-222-4700. For now, detectives have not said whether the shooting on Carolina Avenue was connected to any of the other recent incidents in the area, and the exact circumstances behind the gunfire remain under investigation.
