What started as a handful of self-designed trinkets on Etsy has grown into a St. Louis lifestyle brand worth celebrating with tattoos, tarot card readings, and magicians. Golden Gems, the retail company founded by sisters Susan Logsdon and Amanda Helman, is turning 10 years old, and the pair is throwing a block party at City Foundry on Saturday, Oct. 10, to mark the milestone.
The anniversary bash runs from 11 am to 4 pm and will include performers, local vendors, magicians, tarot readings, and tattoos, according to FOX 2. It's a fitting send-off for a brand that began in 2016 as an Etsy shop offering a handful of self-designed products, according to Ladue News.
From Cherokee Street to a Midtown Flagship
Logsdon and Helman opened their first brick-and-mortar shop on Cherokee Street in South St. Louis City in 2018, per the company's own account on its website. Three years later, in October 2021, Golden Gems moved into its current 5,600-square-foot flagship store and warehouse space on Locust Street in Midtown St. Louis, the company notes on its site.
The brand has since grown into a multi-location St. Louis business that includes retail shops, a warehouse and headquarters, and a bar concept, per the company's about page. Its offerings include apparel, accessories, stationery, and home goods.
Expansion, a Dive Bar, and a Closed Mall Store
A West County Center Shop Golden Gems also had a shop at West County Center.
The West County Center shop was among the brand's boutiques in December 2024.
Next Up: The Gem Bus
The company is launching its bus, The Gem, this month, the magazine reports. Along the way, the company has racked up more than $9 million in lifetime revenue, the outlet notes. Susan Logsdon and Amanda Helman built that decade-long run together as co-founders, a partnership the magazine's profile frames as central to the brand's story. For St. Louisans who've watched the Etsy-shop-to-mini-empire arc play out, Saturday's block party at City Foundry doubles as both a thank-you and a preview of where Golden Gems is headed next.
