Gorillaz rolled into San Diego on Sunday, bringing their animated-band spectacle to Pechanga Arena with support from Little Simz and Deltron 3030. The stop was part of the band's first extensive North American tour since 2022, a run built around their new album The Mountain.
According to Pechanga Arena San Diego, the show was billed simply as “GORILLAZ with support from Little Simz & Deltron 3030,” and was scheduled for the arena at 3500 Sports Arena Boulevard. The tour itself is produced by Live Nation, which also confirms that co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett remain the driving forces behind the project, as reported by Live Nation. Onstage, Albarn performs alongside the Gorillaz live band and what Live Nation describes as “some very special guest performers.”
A Band Still Chasing Superlatives
Gorillaz have long blurred the line between animation and arena rock, and Live Nation's release leans into that legacy, noting the group is recognized by Guinness World Records as the planet's most successful virtual act. The San Diego stop follows a pair of Los Angeles shows earlier this year in which the band played The Mountain in its entirety, according to the venue's event listing. Those LA performances, along with the U.S. opening of the band's House of Kong exhibition, set the stage for the broader tour announcement from Live Nation.
The Mountain itself arrived February 27 on Gorillaz's own independent KONG label, the same Live Nation announcement notes. It's the record anchoring the current run. KPBS listed the Pechanga Arena San Diego show for 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
From Orlando's Kickoff to San Diego's Stop
The tour's scope is substantial: 22 arena dates across the United States and Canada, plus a headline slot at the Shaky Knees festival, per the venue's listing. It began September 17 in Orlando and is slated to wrap with a Halloween-night finale in Seattle. Consequence reported that the Orlando opener at Kia Center featured a 24-song set pulling from Gorillaz's self-titled debut through Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz, and The Mountain, with openers Little Simz and Del the Funky Homosapien joining the band onstage that night.
The tour's second stop came a day later, with the run continuing at Miami's Kaseya Center on September 18, the same outlet noted. Consequence's published schedule also listed the October 25 San Diego date at Pechanga Arena, matching the venue's own listing for the show.
What Ticketholders Should Know
Pechanga Arena's policies for the show are strict on a few fronts. Tickets are nonrefundable and nonexchangeable, the venue states plainly: “No refunds or exchanges.” Mobile tickets must be scanned directly from a phone through the AXS app, since screenshots or printed copies of mobile QR codes won't be accepted at the door.
Bag policies are also limited. The arena permits clear tote bags no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, one-gallon clear plastic freezer or storage bags, and small clutch bags or wallets capped at 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Concertgoers heading to Sports Arena Boulevard for Sunday's show needed to plan accordingly before they arrived.
