Grand Rapids is starting Columbus Day with fog and mist, but the gray opening will give way to a warm, partly sunny afternoon. Temperatures should climb from the mid-50s to near 79 degrees before the week takes a decidedly cooler turn.
Warm Monday Gives Way To Overnight Storms
Monday afternoon will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, with south-southwest winds increasing to 10 to 12 mph and gusts reaching up to 24 mph. The bigger change arrives Monday night, when showers and thunderstorms are possible between about 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., with a 40% chance of rain.
The storms are not expected to be severe, according to the National Weather Service, but a few downpours could make late-night travel messy. Rainfall is expected to stay light overall, with new amounts generally below a tenth of an inch.
Tuesday Stays Mild Before The Cooldown
Tuesday brings mostly sunny skies and another mild afternoon, with a high near 77 and southwest winds gusting as high as 28 mph. A chance of rain returns after 2 a.m. Tuesday night, followed by a few early showers Wednesday before clouds settle in and temperatures top out near 68.
The shifting forecast is a more substantial update to the warm-weekend setup covered in Hoodline’s earlier forecast. The mild stretch is still hanging on Monday and Tuesday, but the second half of the week now looks wetter and noticeably colder.
Rain And A Sharp Friday Chill
Thursday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with rain showers likely after 8 a.m. and a high near 64. Showers could continue Thursday night, while Friday brings another chance of rain, northwest winds between 14 and 22 mph, and a high only around 56.
Friday night could feel like a different season altogether, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping to about 34 degrees. The weekend then rebounds modestly: Saturday should be sunny with a high near 53, followed by a sunny Sunday near 60.
No local watches or warnings are listed for Grand Rapids. For outdoor plans, Monday afternoon and Tuesday offer the best window before rain chances increase Thursday and the colder air arrives Friday.
