Gunfire broke out at a party in Salt Lake City's Rose Park neighborhood Saturday morning, sending one person to the hospital and leaving police searching for whoever pulled the trigger. Officers responded at about 11 a.m. to the area near 1800 W. Sergeant Drive after a disagreement outside a home turned violent.
According to KUTV, an unknown person fired a gun during that disagreement, striking one victim who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police reported no other victims in the shooting, and as of Sunday, no suspect had been identified.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
The investigation remains ongoing, with limited details available so far, per the same KUTV report. Salt Lake City police have asked the public and any witnesses to come forward with information, directing them to reach officers through the department's non-emergency dispatch line.
No further details have been released about what prompted the disagreement outside the home, or about the condition of the person who was shot beyond the initial hospital report. Investigators have not said whether any weapon or physical evidence was recovered at the scene.
Not the First Shooting to Hit Rose Park This Year
Saturday's incident is the latest in a string of shootings to hit the same neighborhood in 2026. In March, a 22-year-old man was shot while driving through Rose Park and managed to drive himself to a nearby gas station, where first responders took him to a hospital in non-life-threatening condition, according to KUTV. A police sergeant described that shooting as an isolated incident at the time, and no suspect had been taken into custody.
In February, shots were reported at a Chevron gas station at 938 N. 900 West in Rose Park on a Saturday evening, as reported by ABC4. Officials said a fight led up to that shooting, possibly related to gang activity, and no one was injured. Police said at the time they were searching for a young man they believed was the shooter, but had no one in custody.
Citywide Crime Trends Offer Mixed Picture
The string of Rose Park shootings comes as Salt Lake City's broader violent crime numbers have moved in different directions. Robberies dropped nearly 28% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, and aggravated assaults fell 12% over that same stretch, according to Axios Salt Lake City. Homicides and rapes, however, remained statistically unchanged over the same period.
Those figures follow an earlier shift noted by Axios, which reported that homicides in Salt Lake City fell to five in the first half of 2025 from seven during the same period in 2024, even as aggravated assaults jumped 9%, from 436 to 475, over that stretch. Saturday's Rose Park shooting followed two earlier 2026 incidents in the neighborhood.
Anyone with information about Saturday's shooting is urged to contact Salt Lake City police through the department's non-emergency dispatch line.
