Las Vegas police are investigating a shooting reported Friday afternoon in a central valley neighborhood near Tara Avenue and Foot Street, just off the busy corridor of West Sahara Avenue and South Valley View Boulevard. Officers were called to the scene at 3:26 p.m., and no injuries have been reported. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking people to avoid the area while they work.
The call came in as a shooting with no immediate word on injuries, according to KSNV, which first reported on the incident. Details beyond the location and time of the call remain limited, and it is not yet known whether investigators have recovered physical evidence such as shell casings, reviewed surveillance footage, or developed any suspect or vehicle descriptions.
A Neighborhood Where Jurisdictions Meet
The shooting was reported near Tara Avenue and Foot Street.
The location also sits almost exactly on a jurisdictional seam. The area falls under the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Spring Valley Area Command, headquartered at 8445 Eldora Avenue and responsible for patrol bounded by Sahara Avenue to the north, Warm Springs Road to the south, and Valley View Boulevard to the east, according to LVMPD. Cross to the east side of Valley View, and patrol responsibility shifts to LVMPD's Convention Center Area Command, which covers the Resort Corridor running south from Sahara Avenue to Harry Reid International Airport.
Same Intersection, Another Recent Investigation
This is not the first time this stretch of Sahara and Valley View has drawn a heavy police response in recent days. On October 14, a 55-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash just east of the intersection, prompting officers to close eastbound Sahara Avenue for hours while they collected evidence, according to Nevada Globe. Hoodline previously reported on that fatal crash, in which Metro police were searching for the driver of a white Honda Accord.
Should investigators determine shots were fired on a public street without anyone hurt, Nevada law treats that as a misdemeanor under Nevada Revised Statutes § 202.280, punishable by up to six months in jail and fines up to $1,000, according to Justia Law.
A Citywide Spike in Violence
Friday's shooting call adds to a broader pattern of rising violence across LVMPD's jurisdiction this year. Homicide statistics had climbed 21% as of September 3, 2026, reaching 73 victims. Midyear figures from the Major Cities Chiefs Association similarly showed 50 homicides logged between January and June of 2026, up from 45 during the same period in 2025, alongside 2,341 aggravated assaults department-wide.
That uptick marks a reversal from 2025, when LVMPD's annual homicide count actually dropped 21.7% to 90 cases citywide, with detectives maintaining a 96.58% solve rate. The year before that, 2024, saw 115 homicides recorded across Metro's jurisdiction. The Sahara Avenue corridor itself has seen repeated gunfire investigations this year, including a midday shooting near Arville Street in May and a shooting near Sahara and Paradise that sent one person to the hospital in July.
