A driver turning from Madewell Street onto Dellwood Avenue in North Memphis came under fire just before 2 p.m. on October 19. Officers responded to a shots-fired call that afternoon and learned that a man had opened fire in the victim's direction as they made the turn, striking the vehicle with gunfire.
According to Action News 5, video recordings captured the suspect firing shots at the victim, giving the Memphis Police Department a visual record of the attack even without the shooter's identity. The Memphis Police Department is investigating the suspect accused of firing shots at a driver in the North Memphis neighborhood.
What Police Know About the Suspect
Investigators described the gunman as a man standing around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, according to the same report. He was wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his face at the time of the shooting, and police say he was armed with a handgun.
No further identifying details, such as a name or vehicle, have been released in connection with the October 19 shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
A Pattern of Gunfire Near the Same Streets
This isn't the only shooting investigators have logged along Madewell and Dellwood in recent months, though there's no indication the cases are connected. In February, the Memphis Police Department said officers responded to a shooting in the 3100 block of Madewell Drive just before 11:25 p.m., where they located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound at 1441 Dellwood Avenue. In that incident, a suspect vehicle — described as a silver or gray Mitsubishi SUV occupied by several males — followed the victim's car and opened fire as the driver tried to get away, police said.
In August, a separate shooting on Dellwood Avenue left a person injured after bullets penetrated a residence, per a report from Citizen. That victim was reportedly taken to a hospital for treatment, the outlet said. The string of incidents comes as October crime data for Memphis reportedly showed increases despite the anniversary of a city crime task force, Action News 5 reported, though the underlying figures were not detailed.
For now, the October 19 case remains open, with police relying on the public's help to put a name to the man seen on video pulling the trigger.
