A man is dead and another was hospitalized after a shooting in a south Everett apartment complex parking lot Monday night, and as of Tuesday the gunman had not been found. The shooting happened across the street from Voyager Middle School and just a block from Mariner High School, near two school campuses.
Deputies said two men were shot, with one pronounced dead and the other taken to Providence Hospital for his injuries, according to KOMO News. A separate report from KIRO 7 specified that the surviving victim was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with non-life-threatening injuries. MyNorthwest.com first reported the shooting in its crime blotter coverage early Tuesday.
Accounts of exactly when and where the shooting unfolded vary slightly between outlets. KOMO News reported the shooting happened at 9:12 p.m. Monday in a parking lot in the block of 4th Avenue West, while King 5 placed the shooting at about 9:15 p.m. near the 11800 block of 4th Avenue West. Either way, the location sits in the same stretch of south Everett described as near the two schools.
Search for a Shooter Continues
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said it is still searching for the shooter as Major Crimes Unit detectives investigate the case, the station's report noted. Authorities have not released a description of the suspect, according to FOX 13 Seattle. Investigators also said the relationship between the suspect and the victims is not yet known, per the same account from KOMO News.
Those open questions leave south Everett residents with few concrete answers about who was involved or why the shooting happened. Detectives have not said whether the gunman fled on foot, by car, or whether anyone has been detained in connection with the case.
A Quiet Corner With a Violent Past
The immediate area has seen scattered violence before. Komo News reported that the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Crime Dashboard shows two homicides or manslaughter incidents in the immediate area in 2025, and two incidents in 2024, including a deadly hit-and-run. Citywide, Everett has recorded five homicides in 2026 as of Tuesday, but none in the same area as Monday night's shooting, the outlet's report added.
A similar incident unfolded in the same stretch of south Everett years earlier. On May 27, 2022, two male suspects were taken into custody after a shooting at an apartment complex in the 11800 block of 4th Avenue West, according to KIRO 7. In that case, the adult male victim was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said the shooter had abandoned a vehicle and escaped on foot.
Homicides Up Countywide in Recent Years
Monday's shooting comes amid a history of homicides in Snohomish County. The county recorded 32 homicides in 2023, down slightly from a record 33 in 2022, according to The Daily Herald. The county's medical examiner recorded 82 homicides from 2021 through 2023 alone, the outlet reported.
Everett itself saw 14 homicides in 2023, three more than the city had in 2022 and more than twice as many as in 2021, per The Daily Herald's reporting. For comparison, Seattle recorded 69 homicides in 2023, tying a record last seen in 1994, while King County recorded 141 homicides that year, the same report noted.
No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday, and the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office had not released further details about a motive or suspect description. Anyone with information is expected to be directed to detectives as the Major Crimes Unit continues its investigation.
