Guthrie and Edmond have officially opened an expanded terminal at Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport, a $7 million project that nearly doubles the building's footprint and adds more room for parked aircraft. The upgraded facility enhances amenities for pilots, visitors, and businesses.

According to a post from the City of Edmond

, the project enhances amenities for pilots, visitors, and businesses alongside the added aircraft parking. The $7 million terminal expansion was financed through $6 million in federal Community Project Funding secured by U.S. Representative Stephanie Bice, with another $500,000 coming from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics and $500,000 split evenly between the cities of Guthrie and Edmond, according to the

Guthrie News Page

.

The newly expanded building measures roughly 5,500 to 7,000 square feet, doubling the airport's previous terminal footprint, and the project also laid down 150,000 square feet of newly paved aircraft parking apron, per details shared on Eventbrite.

New Amenities for Pilots, Visitors, and Businesses

Design plans for the terminal call for a public restaurant with an airside viewing patio, a 24-hour pilot lounge, conference rooms, flight training classroom space, and dedicated offices for airport staff and fixed-base operators, the Guthrie News Page reports.

The terminal expansion didn't happen in isolation. On October 16, 2026, the airport celebrated completion of a separate $5.7 million Taxiway Realignment and Lighting Project that reconstructed 3,750 feet of parallel taxiway to meet FAA standards, installed LED lighting, and laid the apron base for the terminal work now complete, according to Oklahoma.gov. That taxiway project was funded by $5.13 million in FAA Airport Improvement Program grants, $285,000 from the state aerospace department, and $285,000 split equally between Guthrie and Edmond.

A Shared History Between Two Cities

The cities have jointly supported the airport since 2004.

Today the airport spans more than 400 acres and operates a 5,001-foot jet-capable runway with GPS/WAAS instrument approaches, hosting over 125 based aircraft and handling roughly 30,000 flight operations annually, according to the City of Edmond. The airport is a vital resource for the north side of the metro area.

Economic Impact and Statewide Context

An estimate puts the airport's economic impact at more than $19 million. A $427,807 wildlife hazard prevention project, with $406,416 in FAA funding, was scheduled to begin construction in late January, installing 8,350 linear feet of perimeter fencing along the airport's eastern boundary; completion was anticipated in March 2026.

For Guthrie and Edmond, the newly opened terminal represents a milestone in their shared support of the airport.
