Denton has a new place to get fried chicken piled on top of mac and cheese. 375 Chicken ‘N Fries held a soft opening at the end of October off Avenue A, bringing its halal fried chicken concept to the city for the first time.
The new restaurant took over the building at 105 Ave. A that most recently housed Slap Burger, according to Community Impact. The menu leans into the chain’s signature combinations, including tenders, wings, sandwiches, popcorn chicken, loaded fries and the fried chicken-on-mac-and-cheese dish that has become something of a calling card for the brand. The chicken itself is halal and made without added preservatives or additives, the outlet reports.
Sauce lovers will have plenty to work with. The Denton location carries more than a dozen house-made sauces for its chicken, and the business also offers catering for anyone looking to bring the menu to a bigger gathering, per the same report.
A Second Texas Stop After Arlington
Denton marks the second 375 Chicken ‘N Fries location in Texas. Community Impact reports that the chain’s first Texas outpost opened in Arlington at the end of September, at 300 E. Front St. The chain’s locations page also lists Arlington. Denton residents no longer have to drive toward the Metroplex’s southern reaches for a taste of the chain’s fried chicken and fries.
The brand’s halal certification is echoed in reporting from Texas Is Life, which describes the chicken as halal-certified and prepared without artificial additives. That consistency across coverage lines up with how the chain has built its identity since its earliest days.
From New York City Fry Stand to Fried Chicken Chain
375 Chicken ‘N Fries didn’t start out as a fried chicken brand at all. According to its website, the business started in New York City in 2016 as a small fry spot before expanding into halal-friendly fried chicken during the COVID-19 pandemic, the same account notes. The name nods to the frying temperature, 375 degrees, that the chain uses for its chicken.
That New York City footprint has only grown since. A commercial real estate announcement from Newmark detailed five new New York City leases totaling 10,478 square feet, spanning Brooklyn, Harlem and Queens. The chain’s locations page also lists existing New York City spots in Jackson Heights and Bayside, Queens.
What Denton Diners Can Expect
For now, the Denton opening gives local diners a chance to try a brand that has spent the better part of a decade building a following in New York before pushing into Texas this year. Whether it becomes a regular stop for Avenue A foot traffic will likely come down to how the loaded fries and sauce lineup land with Denton’s dining scene. The Slap Burger building, at least, has a new tenant.
