A fast-growing halal Pakistani street food chain is setting up shop on Silas Deane Highway. Food Street is coming to Wethersfield, with plans to open a restaurant at 103 Silas Deane Highway in a plaza currently home to Family Dollar, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Action Auto.

The new restaurant would occupy a 2,400-square-foot vacant space in that plaza, according to The Connecticut Scoop. The outlet reports that building permits were received in late May, with construction anticipated to begin very soon.

What's On the Menu

Food Street bills itself as serving halal food, with a menu that includes Tikka Paratha Rolls, Chaat, Tikka Burgers and Kebabs, per the same report. The chain also offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, tenders and French fries. On its own website, Food Street describes itself as offering “The Finest Halal Street Food Experience in America,” with dishes like tender paratha rolls, gappa chaat and rabri doodh drawing inspiration from Lahore, Pakistan. The company also says it offers both delivery and takeout, serving lunch and dinner.

Per The Connecticut Scoop, Food Street describes itself as the fastest-growing Pakistani street food brand in America. The outlet reports that the Wethersfield spot would be Food Street's first Connecticut location.

A Chain on the Move

Food Street's expansion has been rapid. The Columbus Dispatch reports the chain's founder opened the first Food Street in New Jersey in January 2024, followed by a Columbus, Ohio location that December. That Dispatch report also notes plans for another Ohio location in Mason. The Columbus restaurant, located at 3373 N. High St. near North Broadway in Clintonville, has drawn attention from Columbus Underground, which reviewed menu items like the Chicken Tikka Paratha Roll for $11.99, and noted the restaurant's hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The brand has also pushed into New York. Greater Long Island reports that Food Street's first New York restaurant opened in Hicksville at 350 S. Broadway, describing the chain as having locations in New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Massachusetts, as well as the new New York location. That same outlet reported the Hicksville restaurant marked Food Street's 12th location overall.

Food Street's menu includes burgers, paratha rolls and chaat street foods. For Wethersfield residents watching the Silas Deane Highway plaza, the arrival of a chain with this kind of growth trajectory suggests the vacant storefront next to Family Dollar and O'Reilly Auto Parts won't stay empty much longer.
