Hamilton, Ohio police spent Monday night responding to two separate shootings across the city, one that left a woman hospitalized in stable condition and another that kept officers on scene for hours without any public word on who was hurt. The incidents happened at different addresses and at different times, and authorities have said the two are not connected.
The first call came around 6:30 p.m., when officers were sent to a reported shooting at a home on Walnut Street, according to WLWT. Police remained at the scene for several hours that night, but as of the station's report, they had not released details on who was hurt, how severe any injuries were, or whether anyone had been arrested.
A Second Shooting Hours Later on Shuler Avenue
Nearly three hours after the Walnut Street call, a second shooting unfolded elsewhere in Hamilton. Officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at 9:13 p.m. on Shuler Avenue, per Local 12. Upon locating the victim, a female, officers took her to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Authorities said the Shuler Avenue shooting was unrelated to a shooting reported in the area of South Front Street and Pershing Avenue, according to the same report. That distinction matters because a third shooting location, near South Front Street and Pershing Avenue, was also the subject of coverage from WKRC, which reported that a shooting there left one person hospitalized. The available reporting does not reconcile how many total incidents occurred or whether the Walnut Street call and the South Front Street and Pershing Avenue shooting describe the same event.
Investigation Still Open
As of Tuesday, the investigation into the Shuler Avenue shooting remained ongoing, the outlet noted. No suspect description, weapon information, or motive has been made public for any of Monday night's incidents, and police have not said whether the cases are connected beyond confirming that Shuler Avenue was separate from the South Front Street and Pershing Avenue shooting.
A City With a History of Gun Violence
Monday's shootings echo past violence in Hamilton. In August 2018, a shooting near Front and Walnut streets left one teenager dead and another hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Local 12's earlier reporting. That shooting, like Monday's, happened in the evening hours and prompted a lengthy police response before further details emerged.
For now, residents in the areas around Walnut Street and Shuler Avenue are left waiting on updates as investigators continue piecing together what happened across the two scenes.
