San Diego is waking up under cloudy skies Thursday with temperatures near 68 degrees, but the biggest concern is along the coast. A high tide late Thursday morning could bring significant flooding before a stormier pattern arrives this weekend.

Coastal Flooding Threat Peaks Thursday Morning

The National Weather Service in San Diego says a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday, followed by a Coastal Flood Advisory through 2 p.m. Friday. The highest tide is expected around 11 a.m., reaching nearly 7.7 feet and running about 1.4 to 1.6 feet above astronomical predictions, according to the National Weather Service.

Numerous roads could close, while low-lying homes, businesses and other infrastructure may be inundated. Drivers should avoid barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth.

Clouds Return Before Weekend Rain

Clouds are expected to scatter Thursday morning. Rain is possible tonight into Friday morning.

Friday will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 71. Precipitation chances increase Saturday afternoon, and heavier rain is possible late Saturday night.

Heavier rain could extend into Sunday morning, with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Sunshine Returns Early Next Week

The unsettled pattern should break Monday, when sunny skies and a high near 75 are expected. Tuesday looks warmer, with dry weather expected. Wednesday carries a 10% to 15% chance of light precipitation.
