A 54-year-old Hillsboro resident is $4.2 million richer after hitting the Oregon Game Megabucks jackpot, and the local Chevron station that sold the winning ticket is cashing in too. The winner, who has chosen to stay anonymous, bought the ticket earlier this month for the Saturday, October 10 drawing.

The ticket was purchased at the Tanasbourne West Chevron at 7499 NE Imbrie Drive in Hillsboro, according to ktvz.com. Store owner Aref Zghoul said it marked the first time a jackpot prize has been sold at his location, and he didn't expect the news when an Oregon Lottery representative called with the results.

Clerk's Routine Sale Turns Into Life-Changing News

Zghoul initially figured the ticket was a modest winner at best. “I thought maybe a few hundred, but when she said $4.2 million, I was shocked,” he said, according to the same ktvz.com report. The sale was rung up by clerk Manny Martinez, who will receive a special bonus from the Oregon Lottery for selling the winning ticket, though the exact amount wasn't specified.

The Tanasbourne West Chevron itself will collect a $42,000 bonus for selling the jackpot ticket, the station's report notes. Zghoul said all 12 of his employees are expected to share in bonuses tied to the win, spreading the good fortune well beyond the lucky customer who walked out with the ticket.

Owner Plans Donations and Store Upgrades

Zghoul said he plans to put some of his bonus toward donations, including to an Oregon-based youth charity and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation USA, per the same account. He said the remainder will go toward small upgrades at the store, and added that he was glad the winner turned out to be one of his customers, hoping it might even be a regular.

As first reported by KOIN, the winner's identity has not been disclosed beyond their age and hometown. The Oregon Game Megabucks jackpot now resets to $1 million following the win, according to kcby.com.

Oregon's Recent Run of Big Megabucks Wins

Hillsboro's $4.2 million prize joins a string of sizable Megabucks payouts across the state this year. In June, someone in Prineville won a $3.2 million prize, while a Eugene man claimed an $8.1 million jackpot in 2025, kcby.com reports.

Oregon's Megabucks jackpot has also climbed to eye-popping heights before resetting. Earlier this year, the prize swelled to $11.1 million after eight months without a winner, before two tickets matched all six numbers on April 13 — one sold in Albany, where the store's co-owners earned a $56,000 bonus, and another at a Portland 7-Eleven, which received the same $56,000 bonus after its winner claimed the prize, per kcby.com's report.
