Honigman LLP, a Midwest-based law firm founded in Detroit, is expanding its presence in Boston and bringing on three partners. The Boston expansion includes a life sciences practice. The three new Honigman partners previously worked at Womble Bond Dickinson's Boston office.

Honigman Expands into Boston

According to Boston Business Journal, Honigman's Boston expansion includes a life sciences practice. Founded in Detroit and based in the Midwest, the firm is expanding beyond its home region into one of the country's most competitive legal and biotech markets.

The three partners joining Honigman previously worked at Womble Bond Dickinson's Boston office. Before that, three McCarter & English IP partners joined Womble to help open its Boston office.

Boston's Law Firms Keep Shuffling Talent

The Honigman hires land amid a stretch of active recruiting among Boston law firms, much of it centered on life sciences and financial services work. Womble Bond Dickinson said a five-lawyer financial-services litigation team had joined its Boston office, according to a statement from Womble Bond Dickinson. That team, led by partners Jeffrey Patterson, Ryan Tosi and Phoebe Winder, along with associates Keith McCarthy and Reymond Yammine, came from K&L Gates.

McCarter & English Plots Its Own Next Move

McCarter & English, the firm where Honigman's three new partners once worked before joining Womble, has its own Boston real estate shakeup underway. The firm has announced it will relocate its Boston office from 265 Franklin Street to One International Place in May 2027, according to McCarter & English, after signing an 11-year lease for 47,466 square feet of office space. The firm said the move supports its work serving clients in the bustling life sciences and high-tech industries across the region. McCarter & English also recently added 10 lawyers and nine professional staff members from Burns & Levinson to three key practices in its Boston office, per a firm announcement.

Taken together, the moves point to a Boston legal market where life sciences and financial-services expertise is driving firms to recruit across one another's rosters rather than build from scratch. Honigman's Boston expansion adds one more name to that list, bringing three former Womble partners into the firm's Boston presence.
