A 34-year-old man wanted in connection with a February kidnapping and assault has been arrested in the Horizon City area. Deputies took Ramiro Portillo Mendivil into custody Friday on an aggravated kidnapping warrant tied to the case.
According to KFOX14/CBS4, deputies arrested Portillo Mendivil at a residence in the 140,000 block of Peter Noyes, with the El Paso County Constable's Office Precinct 3 confirming the arrest took place in the Horizon City area. He was taken into custody without incident, the station reported, and was subsequently turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit for booking.
Warrant Traces Back to February Assault Investigation
The warrant stems from a Sheriff's Office investigation into a February incident in which a victim was reportedly kidnapped and physically assaulted, per the same report. A grand jury indicted Portillo Mendivil on Oct. 6 on a charge of aggravated kidnapping involving bodily injury or abuse, with a safe-release provision attached to the charge, the station's report noted. The warrant listed a $50,000 bond.
A Spanish-language account from Noticias El Paso states that the warrant for Portillo Mendivil's arrest was activated on Oct. 22.
What Comes Next
Details about the February incident itself, including the identity of the alleged victim, have not been released. It also remains unclear whether Portillo Mendivil has entered a plea or what his custody status is as the case moves forward.
