Atlanta starts Thursday near 66 degrees under clear skies, with patchy fog still possible around sunrise. The clouds should break quickly, setting up a mostly sunny afternoon near 88 degrees with a southeast breeze and no rain expected.
That dry window is brief. Friday stays hot at about 89 degrees, but a few showers and thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m., with rain chances increasing Friday night as temperatures settle near 70. The shift is a sharper turn from the sunny stretch outlined in Hoodline’s Wednesday forecast.
Rain Chances Jump Saturday
Saturday looks considerably wetter, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 84 degrees. Rain could start as showers before 2 p.m. before storms become more likely later in the day, while Saturday night remains unsettled with another 80% rain chance.
Sunday is the wettest day in the near-term forecast, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy skies and a high closer to 76 degrees. Monday is expected to be dry in Atlanta as the front moves south and drier air reaches North Georgia.
Heavy Rain And Flooding Bear Watching
The National Weather Service says deep Gulf moisture and a slow-moving front could produce multiple inches of rain across Georgia from Friday through Monday. Forecast rainfall totals currently range from 1 to 3 inches across North Georgia, with higher amounts possible farther south, so repeated downpours could create flooding concerns even though no watches, warnings or advisories are posted for Atlanta Thursday morning.
After the weekend washout, Tuesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 70 and only a slight shower chance. Wednesday's high should remain in the 70s.
