House of Marigold’s Norton Commons restaurant will not open as planned on Oct. 8. The new location at 10715 Meeting St. has been postponed, and no replacement date has been set; The Courier-Journal reported that the restaurant expected to announce a new grand-opening date by the end of the week.

The delay leaves diners without a confirmed start date for a location planned to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, unlike the Middletown restaurant, which currently serves breakfast and lunch. The Norton Commons plan also includes cocktails and a coffee offering; WDRB reported that dinner would be a new service for the brand. The planned hours were 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to The Courier-Journal.

A new outpost in a mixed-use neighborhood

Norton Commons has an established local-business landscape beyond this opening. Planning firm DPZ says the development required a special zoning ordinance and a pattern-book to guide homebuilders; it also describes 60 locally owned businesses integrated into the community’s mixed-use fabric. That context describes the neighborhood, not the reason for House of Marigold’s delay or a specific role for this restaurant within the plan, according to DPZ.

The Norton Commons opening is one part of the Coles’ expansion. Kris and Adrienne Cole launched Marigold Catering Co. in 2019 and opened the original House of Marigold on Shelbyville Road in 2023, The Courier-Journal reported. The restaurant has also planned a NuLu location at 624 E. Market St.; Louisville Business First reported that the project would occupy the former Harvest building, a 13,000-square-foot space planned for several dining experiences, including a greenhouse bar and rooftop lounge.

For Norton Commons diners, the immediate questions remain the same: when the restaurant will open and whether its planned hours and services will change. The report of the postponement did not give a reason for it, and the replacement date is still pending.
