Where to share information

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office says to report a missing person or runaway by calling 239-252-9300. For a missing person under 13, a senior citizen or a person with special needs, call 9-1-1, the office says. There is no 24-hour waiting period to report someone missing.

After a missing child has been reported to local law enforcement, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children advises families to call its hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

AMBER Alerts and national case figures

According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s 2024 AMBER Alert Report, alert plans use specific criteria to determine whether an abducted-child case qualifies. An alert is not automatic whenever a child is reported missing; the report’s general description does not establish Florida’s specific criteria or who decides whether an individual case qualifies.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reported that it assisted law enforcement with 29,568 missing-children cases in 2024 and helped bring 91% of those cases home. These figures refer to cases the organization assisted with, not a local trend or the outcome of any individual case.
