Case and medical status
Frank Kimball, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was charged with simple assault-domestic violence, breach of bail and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Portsmouth Herald. The Herald reported that police later learned Kimball was out on bail in a pending Salem case. He was scheduled to appear in Hampton District Court on Monday, the day after his arrest.
The infant was taken from a local hospital to a pediatric hospital after medical staff found an injury to the child’s head. The circumstances of the injury remain under investigation, NBC Boston reported. Hampton Fire Department personnel treated the woman, and she and two children were taken to the local hospital, according to NBC Boston and the Portsmouth Herald.
Police account
Police responded to an apartment building at 23 B St. in Hampton late Sunday. NBC Boston reported the call came at about 11:30 p.m.; the Portsmouth Herald gave the time as 11:35 p.m. The Herald identified the woman as 36. Both outlets reported that neighbors guided officers to the apartment, where officers heard a woman screaming. Before officers knocked, the woman came outside carrying the infant, with blood on her.
Officers removed Kimball from the apartment and arrested him without incident. Police reported signs of a physical altercation inside and documented the woman’s injuries, according to NBC Boston. The outlet also reported that police concluded a dispute between Kimball and the woman had become a physical assault. The woman told police she had tried to leave several times but returned because she was worried about the safety of two children in the home.
