Atlanta is waking to rain, fog and temperatures around 61 degrees Saturday morning, but the bigger story is still building: dangerous wind, flooding and tornado threats are expected across the metro area through tonight.

Remnants of Isaias are driving a prolonged stretch of rough weather, with the National Weather Service warning of heavy rain, strong easterly winds and possible tornadoes. The situation is a significant escalation from Hoodline's earlier forecast, when watches and warnings had not yet been posted for Atlanta.

Wind And Flooding Threaten Saturday Travel

East winds of 15 to 25 mph will frequently gust as high as 50 mph, with the strongest gusts expected after 8 a.m. Saturday and easing after midnight. Saturated ground and strong winds could bring down trees and power lines, creating scattered outages and difficult travel, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Heavy rain will arrive in waves through Saturday night, with 2 to 4 inches expected across much of North and Central Georgia and locally higher totals possible where bands stall. A Flood Watch remains in effect through 8 a.m. Sunday, with urban areas, poor-drainage spots, creeks and streams especially vulnerable to rapid flooding.

Tornado Risk Builds Through The Afternoon

Several tornadoes could develop as the storm’s outer rainbands move across the region, with the threat increasing from the afternoon into Saturday evening. Tropical-system tornadoes can form quickly, so residents should keep multiple ways to receive warnings and be ready to move to an interior room away from windows.

Loose outdoor items should be secured, phones should be charged and unnecessary driving should be avoided during the worst conditions. Never drive through a flooded roadway, including water covering an underpass or low-lying street.

Sunshine Returns Sunday

Showers and thunderstorms could continue into early Sunday, but the weather should turn partly sunny by afternoon with a high near 74 degrees. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 62.

The forecast then shifts sharply warmer and drier: Monday is expected to reach 84 degrees under sunny skies, followed by highs near 86 Tuesday and 87 Wednesday. Thursday and Friday should remain sunny and warm, with highs in the lower to mid-80s.
