Jalen Williams was carried off the floor on a stretcher late in the fourth quarter Sunday night after a gruesome lower-leg injury during Oklahoma City's 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. The 25-year-old forward gave two thumbs up to the crowd as he was wheeled out, but no update on his condition was available by the time the game ended.
Accounts differed on the timing of the play. The Athletic reports Williams drove from the left wing toward the rim with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter. USA Today reports that he went up for a dunk at 1:15 and was fouled by Derrick Jones Jr., then fell awkwardly on his left leg. The Athletic's account describes Williams being met at the rim by Jones and contested from behind by Kris Dunn, with his left leg folding beneath him as he came down. Jones was assessed a Flagrant 1 for his part in the play.
Williams was placed in an air cast and loaded onto a stretcher before being carried back to the locker room, according to News On 6. Even as he was taken off the court, he found a way to acknowledge the home crowd, giving two thumbs up while being stretchered out, the outlet reports. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said after the game that he could not provide any update on Williams's status, the same account from The Athletic notes. KFOR likewise reported there was no current update on the injury at the time of publication.
Thunder Survive a Banged-Up Night to Stay Unbeaten
Despite the scare, Oklahoma City held on for the win behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 34 points to push the Thunder to 3-0, the station's report notes. It wasn't the only injury worry of the night for OKC. Cason Wallace left the game in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury, while Jaylin Williams was ruled out for the rest of the night with right wrist soreness, according to a separate report from Heavy.com.
A Star Already Battling Through Injury-Plagued Stretch
Williams entered the 2026-27 season after returning to full health that summer. He played a career-low 33 games last season while dealing with recurring hamstring injuries, per the same account from The Athletic, with USA Today attributing the limited workload to a nagging right shooting-wrist injury and strains in both hamstrings. The Oklahoman offers a broader timeline of the damage, reporting that Williams dealt with a torn scapholunate ligament in his right shooting wrist that required a second surgery, a right hamstring strain in January that he later re-aggravated, and a Grade 1 left hamstring strain in April.
Those injuries carried into the postseason. Williams played in only three games during the Western Conference finals, including a 10-minute appearance in Game 6, according to The Oklahoman. Oklahoma City was eliminated by San Antonio in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals, the outlet reports, closing out a season in which Williams had earned an All-NBA selection in 2025.
The dossier of reporting on Williams's games played last season isn't entirely consistent: The Athletic and USA Today both put the figure at 33 games, while The Oklahoman describes him as missing the majority of the season and limited to 38 games. Either way, the picture is the same heading into Sunday night — a player who had just started to put a difficult stretch behind him now facing another anxious wait for answers, with Oklahoma City's medical staff yet to say what comes next.
