A Toyota Tundra flipped on southbound U.S. 93 just outside Kingman, Arizona, around 12:15 p.m. Friday, and the person who stopped to help pull the driver out wasn't a passerby off the highway — he was behind the wheel of Kacey Musgraves' tour bus. The driver turned out to be a former firefighter, and he stayed with the crash victim until paramedics arrived.
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the rollover near Kingman, according to TMZ, which reported that eyewitnesses saw the pickup veer off the road and flip. One of Musgraves' tour-bus drivers pulled over to help the man and remained with him until first responders got to the scene, per the outlet.
Former Firefighter Steps In to Free Trapped Driver
Officials said the bus driver's background turned out to matter in the moment: he was a former firefighter who actually helped extricate the pickup's driver from the wreckage. After the crash, the driver was described by officials as alert and responsive, and he was transported to a local hospital with what were called minor injuries.
There was a second passenger of sorts involved in the chaos. The driver's wife had been following behind in a separate vehicle with the couple's dog, and people at the scene said the dog was safe after the crash.
Musgraves Wasn't Aboard, but the Tour Rolls On
Musgraves herself was not on the bus when it pulled over to help, sources close to the singer told the outlet. Those same sources said her tour would continue as scheduled despite the dramatic roadside detour involving her crew.
TMZ reported that it reached out to Musgraves' representatives for comment on the incident but had not received a response. The tour's next stop lands close to home for this story: Musgraves is set to perform in Phoenix on Saturday, with Rolling Stone's tour schedule listing the show at Mortgage Matchup Center. From there, the same schedule shows her heading to Los Angeles for two nights at Crypto.com Arena on Oct. 18 and 19, followed by a pair of Seattle dates at Climate Pledge Arena on Oct. 26 and 27.
