A young girl believed to be about 3 years old was found alone near East 27th Street and Jackson Avenue in Kansas City, and she has not been able to tell officers her name or her parents' names. Police are now asking the public for help figuring out who she is and where she belongs.
According to KSHB, the girl was found alone on Saturday in Kansas City. She has black hair styled in beaded braids and brown eyes, the station reported. A separate account from KMBC described her as approximately 3 years old and said she was found Sunday afternoon near 27th and Jackson, wearing a white shirt and blue pants — a discrepancy in the reported day that has not been resolved between the two outlets' accounts.
Officers searched the surrounding area hoping to track down her family, but as KSHB reported, the canvass produced negative results. The girl herself has been unable to communicate even basic identifying details to the officers who found her, according to KCTV, which also sought public help identifying her.
How to Help Reunite Her With Family
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the girl or knows her guardian to call 911 or reach the KCPD Juvenile Section directly, per the station's report. The contact number provided is 816-234-5150. No further details about her identity or the circumstances that led to her being alone have been made public.
It's not the first time this year that Kansas City police have turned to the public — and unconventional help — to reunite a lost child with family. In one earlier case, officers responded to a call about a toddler wandering barefoot in the street, and a dog on scene led them to a nearby house that turned out to be the child's home, reuniting the toddler with family. In a different case, officers found a girl wandering near Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Benton Boulevard around 7:45 a.m. on a Tuesday; police later said her family was located and she was safe.
Those past cases ended quickly, but it remains unclear whether the girl found this weekend near 27th and Jackson has been identified or reunited with anyone. Hoodline has not independently verified further updates, and the current status of the search was not addressed in either station's reporting.
