A 19-year-old Kansas City videographer has spent months building a music video around the Kansas City Current's “Teal Town” anthem, working without a contract from the club, the song's performer, or any sponsor. Joseph Termini directed, self-produced and edited the project himself, and it's now in the final stages of post-production ahead of a planned release later this year.
A Solo Project Built Around a Team Anthem
The Kansas City Current decided last year to create a team anthem, and The Royal Chief, the stage name of Kansas City musician Jamel Thompson, created “Teal Town” as that song, produced by Code Red, according to the Kansas City Pitch. The song had its rollout in February 2025, and The Royal Chief later opened for the Current and performed “Teal Town” before 11,500 fans, per the same report. Thompson has been making music in Kansas City since 2017, according to Kansas City Public Radio.
Termini started an independently initiated “Teal Town” music video project, and the Current joined that project in early 2025, the Pitch reports. He is not contracted by the Current, The Royal Chief, or other sponsors, the outlet notes — meaning the entire effort has run on his own initiative rather than a club-backed production deal.
From Gaming Edits at Age 7 to a City-Wide Vision
Termini's path into video work started young. He began editing gaming videos when he was 7 years old and landed his first paid production job at 10, he told VoyageKC. He has since built Termini Media, a Kansas City, Missouri-based videography and photography business whose client list includes Cafe Corazon, Ralph Lauren and Mahomes Sports Drink, according to the Pitch — and the company has provided social media videography for three years. (The exact founding year is unsettled: Termini told VoyageKC he officially started the business in 2022, while he told Voyage LA it was 2023.)
KCTV5 has separately described Termini as a Kansas City videographer who does everything from branding to sports and events, and reported he was the driving force behind a different Kansas City music-video project this year tied to the World Cup and the song “KC to the World.” That report noted that as a Kansas City native, he understood the importance of showcasing his city positively through a music video — a theme that echoes in the “Teal Town” project, which the Pitch says focuses on shared Kansas City hometown spirit and aims to represent the strength of having a great USL team in the city.
A Lineup of Local Faces On Camera
The video's cast, as reported by the Pitch, spans athletes, officials and local creatives: Kansas City Chiefs players Trent McDuffie, Chu Goderich and Xavier Worthy all appear, alongside Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas. Musicians Jo Blaq, Joey Cool, Ana Demmer and Nicky Jones are featured as well, along with Chris Cabot, Laura Cabot, and a figure identified only as The Teal Man.
Randi Mahomes helped push the project to completion, according to the Pitch's reporting. Termini told the outlet he felt the song deserved more than its initial rollout, and that his vision is to create something long-lasting for the Current. The video remains in the final stages of post-production, with a release planned later this year, the Pitch reports.
