Kansas City spent the summer hosting the world. Now the city's business community is set to gather and talk about what came next. The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will hold its 139th Annual Dinner on Nov. 24, 2026, framing the evening around the global connections, business opportunities and people that organizers say make the region world class.
The Chamber announced the date in a post on X, writing that “Kansas City welcomed the world. Now, we're sharing what happened off the pitch!” and inviting the public to register for the event, according to the KC Chamber
. The post frames the dinner as a chance to revisit the business and civic impact of the city's turn in the international spotlight this year.
The Annual Dinner is billed as Kansas City's premier business networking event, and it's traditionally held every November, usually on the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving, according to kcchamber.com. The evening typically honors the Chamber's incoming and outgoing board chairs and wraps up with a surprise announcement of the Kansas Citian of the Year, an award the Chamber describes as its highest honor, presented to someone whose civic contributions and achievements reflect the organization's values.
A Year Shaped by the World Cup
This year's framing leans heavily on Kansas City's experience hosting FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, an event that organizers say elevated the city's profile on the global stage and strengthened its reputation as the Soccer Capital of America. The tournament's legacy includes lasting partnerships and an elevated global profile.
The FIFA Fan Festival Kansas City ran for 19 days.
The business community felt the ripple effects too. More than 2,500 businesses signed up through the KC2026 Business Interest Opportunity Form to flag their capabilities for World Cup-related community needs, the Chamber notes on its website. KC2026, working alongside the Chamber, also welcomed delegations from Argentina and the Netherlands to meet with local civic, business and elected leaders as part of the broader international engagement tied to the tournament.
How Last Year's Dinner Set the Template
Last year's version of the event, the 138th Annual Dinner, took place Nov. 25, 2025, running from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the Kay Barnes Grand Ballroom at the Kansas City Convention Center, and was presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. That evening opened with a networking reception, moved into a seated dinner, and featured remarks from outgoing Board Chair Charlie Shields of University Health and incoming Board Chair Jeff Simon of Husch Blackwell.
As in past years, the night built toward its signature moment: the surprise announcement of the 2025 Kansas Citian of the Year.
Back in 2015, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's “Proud to be KC” themed annual dinner drew nearly 2,000 guests to the Kansas City Convention Center, according to the Kansas City Independent. The event's current home, the Kay Barnes Grand Ballroom, covers 40,500 square feet and can expand to 46,400 square feet for gatherings of up to 4,000 people, per the Kansas City Convention Center.
What is established is the event's purpose and timing: a gathering the Chamber says will celebrate Kansas City's global connections, business opportunities and the people behind the region's standing as world class, set for Nov. 24. Given the Chamber's pattern of scheduling the dinner on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, this year's date fits that long-running tradition.
