Actor Keegan Allen says he was beaten and robbed at gunpoint outside a West Hollywood grocery store Thursday night, an attack he described in a bloodied video posted to social media that has since drawn attention to a string of armed robberies targeting luxury watches across the neighborhood. The 37-year-old, known for playing Toby Cavanaugh on “Pretty Little Liars,” said two men struck him in the head and made off with his Rolex.
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, Allen was confronted by two men on the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Holloway Drive, close to where the attack unfolded outside Laurel Supply, a grocery store and eatery in the area. The men allegedly hit Allen in the head, pointed a gun at him, and brandished a knife before taking his watch and fleeing. Allen posted what appears to be surveillance footage of the confrontation along with his own account of the night.
ABC7 reported that paramedics medically evaluated Allen and he was not transported to a hospital. In his Instagram video, Allen said his attackers spared his ring and bracelet while threatening to kill him specifically over the Rolex, according to The Economic Times. He said he was confused and experiencing concussion symptoms after taking multiple blows to the head.
Suspects Fled North on Olive Drive
Sheriff's dispatch communications from the incident showed deputies responding to a 911 call at 8445 Santa Monica Boulevard, where two Black male suspects armed with a gun and knife allegedly fled north on Olive Drive in an unidentified vehicle, the outlet's report noted. As of the latest reporting, police have made no arrests, and detailed suspect descriptions have not been made available.
Laurel Supply, where the attack took place, occupies a 1948 historic building that was converted into an upscale organic grocer and eatery, opening in May as a luxury market competitor in West Hollywood, per SFGATE. The location was developed by the hospitality team behind West Hollywood establishments Laurel Hardware and Ysabel.
Beyond his role as Toby Cavanaugh on “Pretty Little Liars,” Allen co-starred as Liam Walker on the CW drama “Walker” starting in 2021 and published the 2015 photography book “life.love.beauty,” according to TV Guide. He is also an active photographer and musician, the outlet notes.
West Hollywood Contracts Out Its Policing
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has a West Hollywood Station, per the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The attack comes just a week after Hoodline reported a shooting outside a Holloway Drive shop, where three masked assailants attempted a daytime robbery on October 1 that ended with a victim shot and hospitalized. Separately, WEHOonline reported a Rolex robbery involving masked suspects in West Hollywood.
Fits a Years-Long Pattern of Watch Robberies
In West Hollywood, reports have described suspects targeting pedestrians for high-end jewelry.
A crime report listed a 27.03% decrease in aggravated assaults for January through June, according to WEHOonline. High-visibility incidents like Allen's attack have kept local concerns elevated.
It remains unknown whether LASD investigators believe the suspects in Allen's attack are connected to the other watch robbery reported along Santa Monica Boulevard that same day, and whether surveillance footage from Laurel Supply or nearby businesses will help identify suspects.
