An 18-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint Saturday night on the northbound platform of the East 180th Street subway station in the Bronx, with an unidentified attacker fleeing with his cellphone, credit card, and an undetermined amount of cash. The robbery happened at approximately 10 p.m. as the teen stood on the platform serving the 2 and 5 trains, within the jurisdiction of the 48th Precinct and Transit District 12.

According to NYPD Crime Stoppers

, the unidentified male approached the victim and forcibly removed his property while brandishing a knife before fleeing the scene. The suspect was described as an unidentified male, and no arrest had been announced as of the appeal. NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information leading to an arrest and indictment, with tips accepted at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), in Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), through the Crime Stoppers website, or via direct message to @NYPDTips on X.

Under New York Penal Law § 160.15, forcibly stealing property while using or threatening the immediate use of a dangerous instrument such as a knife constitutes Robbery in the First Degree, according to Lebedin Kofman LLP. That charge is a Class B violent felony carrying a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in state prison if the suspect is apprehended and convicted.

A Station With a Troubling Recent History

This is not the first violent incident at East 180th Street in recent months. Just four days before the robbery, on October 13, a 24-year-old man was stabbed on the northbound No. 2 train platform at East 180th Street station, an attack Hoodline previously reported on. In July, a 45-year-old man was slashed on the same platform, and in August, a 65-year-old woman was shoved onto the tracks there in an unprovoked attack.

The station sits directly across the street from NYPD Transit District 12's headquarters at 460 Morris Park Avenue.

Crime Trends Pull in Different Directions

The robbery lands amid a split picture in local crime statistics. NYPD officials told a Community Board 1 meeting in September that robberies across the surrounding 48th Precinct, covering Belmont, East Tremont, and West Farms, had fallen 14% year-to-date, with murders down 40% in the same period. Citywide, overall major felony crime was down 6.6% through the week ending October 18, according to NYPD CompStat data.

Yet transit crime has moved in the opposite direction. The same CompStat figures show citywide transit crime complaints rose 1.7% year-to-date, with 1,737 complaints logged compared to 1,708 over the same stretch in 2025.

A Landmark Station

The station serves the Van Nest and West Farms neighborhoods and is also architecturally significant: built in 1912 as the administration building for the New York, Westchester and Boston Railroad, it is a landmark.

NYPD is asking anyone with information about Saturday's robbery to come forward through Crime Stoppers' hotline, website, or X account.
