A 45-year-old Knoxville man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges involving child sexual exploitation, capping a Knox County Sheriff's Office investigation. Christopher Michael Anderson was sentenced on Wednesday, October 14.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office was involved in the investigation. Anderson pleaded guilty to multiple charges involving the sexual exploitation of children. The case involved an investigation by the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, according to 3bmedianews.com.
A Detective's Quiet Diligence
Nieves said the investigation required dedication and expressed gratitude to those who helped see it through, per the same account. She specifically commended Stephanie Vanwinkle of the Cyber Investigations Unit for her role in helping bring the case to a successful resolution.
Officials noted that much of the work done by family crimes and cyber units occurs quietly and behind the scenes, rarely drawing public attention until a case like Anderson's reaches sentencing. The sheriff's office expressed gratitude to law enforcement and community partners working to protect vulnerable people throughout the investigation.
Part of a Broader Pattern in East Tennessee
Anderson's sentencing is one of several child-exploitation cases to move through federal court in the Eastern District of Tennessee over the past two years. In January, a Knoxville man was sentenced to eight years for distributing child pornography after federal authorities said he uploaded video files on the messaging app Kik, according to justice.gov. In February, Andrew Worrall, a British national living in Knox County and a former nuclear energy program director at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child, the same federal office reported.
Other recent cases carried even longer sentences. A Knox County man was sentenced to 60 years for two counts of production of child pornography in April 2025, while Pat Allen Potter, 48, of Andersonville, received a 25-year sentence for exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography that May, according to justice.gov. A Chattanooga man identified as Buckley also agreed to plead guilty to one count of exploitation of a minor, per a separate justice.gov release.
Anderson's sentence followed an investigation involving the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the FBI.
