Lansing shoppers finally have a date to circle: the city's newest ALDI, at 2110 Lake Lansing Road, opens its doors at 9 a.m. on October 15. The first 200 customers through the door will walk away with a golden ticket worth up to $100, and a free eco-friendly tote stuffed with ALDI products and goodies.
1240 The Ticket reports the confirmed opening date. Shoppers who can't wait get a preview on October 14, when ALDI hosts a store sneak peek allowing customers to see the full layout and shop the entire store before the official opening, per the same report. ALDI employees will also hand out free tote bags on opening day, though the station notes those are available only while supplies last.
A 20,000-Square-Foot Addition Near Eastwood Towne Center
The new store was designed as a 20,664-square-foot facility with a 90-vehicle parking lot on commercially zoned land near Eastwood Towne Center, tucked between a Speedway and a Biggby Coffee, according to 100.7 WITL. The project moved through local government well before the opening date: in February 2025, the Charter Township of Lansing Planning Commission recommended that the Board of Trustees move forward with reviewing the project.
The Lake Lansing Road corridor has seen other recent retail activity. On September 17, Chick-fil-A opened a new drive-thru restaurant at 2615 Lake Lansing Road, replacing a former Comerica Bank branch near the same shopping hub and creating roughly 90 local jobs, the fast-food chain announced.
Filling Gaps on Lansing's North Side
Before this opening, ALDI operated just two stores inside Lansing city limits — on South Pennsylvania Avenue and West Saginaw Highway — plus an East Lansing-area store in Okemos, per the station's report. The Lake Lansing Road location extends the chain's reach to the city's north side.
ALDI isn't stopping there. The company is also building another location in Grand Ledge, at 980 E. Saginaw Highway, where the Grand Ledge Planning Commission approved a site plan for a matching 20,664-square-foot store in August 2025. The LoopNet listing notes that the intersection carries 52,000 vehicles daily. Job postings for the Grand Ledge store list starting wages of $18.00 per hour for full-time associates, with scheduled raises reaching $20.00 per hour by year five, according to ALDI Careers.
Part of a Bigger National Push
The Greater Lansing additions are a small piece of a much larger strategy. ALDI announced a $9 billion, five-year expansion plan in March 2024 to build or convert 800 U.S. stores by the end of 2028, including nearly 330 new locations across the Midwest and Northeast, according to PR Newswire. The company aims to reach nearly 3,200 U.S. stores through the plan.
A Cheddar report ties the discount grocer's accelerated growth to persistent food inflation, a pressure that has pushed shoppers across income levels toward private-label retailers like ALDI.
