A 66-year-old man is facing a felony charge after police say he chased three teenagers through a western Laredo neighborhood in his pickup truck, drove toward one of them, and pointed what turned out to be a BB gun at the 17-year-old. José De Jesús Segura was arrested Monday and remained held at the Webb County Jail as of Tuesday morning.

According to the Beaumont Enterprise, the Laredo Police Department responded at about 6:20 p.m. Monday to the 1900 block of Santa Rita Avenue after receiving a report of a person pointing a gun at a teenager. As reported by elmanana.com.mx, the confrontation began on that same block, with Segura allegedly chasing the three adolescents in a white pickup while they ran on foot.

Officers Say Truck Was Driven Toward Teen

Officers located Segura in the 2000 block of Vidaurri Avenue, where they say he was still following the youths. The outlet reports that patrol officers saw him driving his truck toward the 17-year-old — described in the original Spanish-language account as “echándole” the truck at the teen. The teenager told officers that Segura also pointed a carbine at him, per the same account.

Police determined the weapon was a black BB gun rifle, which was seized at the scene. Segura was identified as the suspect and taken into custody on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, a second-degree felony, along with a charge of deadly conduct, a Class A misdemeanor.

Booked Without Bond

Jail records listed no bond for Segura following his booking into the Webb County Jail.

The case remains under investigation, and no further information about the three juveniles involved or what led to the encounter had been made public as of Tuesday.
