Memphis is starting Thursday clear and warm at around 73 degrees, but the city has one more summer-like day before a sharp autumn reset. Sunshine will push temperatures to about 90 degrees this afternoon, followed by a strong cold front and a much cooler, windier Friday.

One More Hot, Sunny Afternoon

Thursday will stay sunny, with southwest winds between 5 and 10 mph and almost no chance of rain. The hottest stretch arrives during the afternoon, when temperatures reach the upper 80s and peak near 90 degrees.

Thursday night temperatures are expected to fall to around 61 degrees. Dry weather is expected to continue, with little to no rainfall in the forecast through next week.

Cold Front Brings Gusty Friday Winds

The front is expected to move through Friday morning, sending temperatures down to a high near 67 degrees. North-northwest winds will run 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 30 mph, making Friday feel dramatically different from Thursday.

The National Weather Service is also warning of elevated wildfire danger Friday, particularly along and west of Interstate 55, as strong winds combine with dry air and relative humidity below 40%. Residents should use extra caution with outdoor flames and avoid burning yard waste while conditions are dry and gusty.

Cool Weekend, Then Temperatures Rebound

Saturday will be sunny but cool, with a high near 65 degrees and north-northeast winds gusting as high as 25 mph. Saturday night could dip to around 43 degrees before Sunday brings another sunny day with a high near 70.

The warmer pattern returns early next week, with highs near 73 degrees Monday, 77 Tuesday and 81 Wednesday. The forecast continues to favor dry conditions across the Memphis area.
