A coming-soon banner for Ledo Pizza has gone up at a former car-rental site on Georgia Avenue NW near Howard University, stirring curiosity among neighbors in the Pleasant Plains area about what might be moving into the long-vacant lot.
The sighting was first reported by a reader named Lauren and published by PoPville, which said the banner appeared at the former car-rental site on Georgia Avenue near Howard University. Per the submitted report, the site is identified as 2730 Georgia Ave. NW, the address of a former Enterprise Rent-A-Car location near the university. Lauren told PoPville she noticed what appeared to be activity at the site and said the banner appears to use the same branding as Ledo Pizza, though she added that she could not find information about the location on the web.
That gap in information is notable because Ledo Pizza's own website already lists a Washington, D.C., Georgia Avenue location, but at a different address entirely. The chain's site lists its DC Georgia Avenue restaurant at 7435 Georgia Avenue NW, in the 20012 ZIP code, according to Ledo Pizza's store listing. Nothing currently available resolves why the two addresses don't match, and this article does not attempt to reconcile the discrepancy.
A Familiar Pattern for the Chain's DC Expansion
This isn't the first time a Ledo Pizza coming-soon banner has generated buzz in the District before a location materialized. Back in 2019, PoPville reported that signage had appeared in the former Bar Roubaix space in Columbia Heights, with the outlet noting it had separately confirmed in April of that year that a Ledo was headed to that spot. Around the same time, the chain also opened a location on H Street NE, per that same PoPville report.
More recently, Ledo Pizza's Barracks Row location at 415 8th St. SE reopened under new ownership, according to The MoCo Show. That Capitol Hill-area shop originally opened in June 2022 in a space that had previously housed EAT BAR, the outlet reported, and it noted the location had begun testing delivery service in August, though it was unclear at the time whether delivery would continue under the new owners. On social media, the chain's official X account posted a reopening announcement for that Barracks Row shop, directing customers to the 8th Street address.
A Maryland Institution With Deep Local Roots
Ledo Pizza describes itself as founded in 1955 in the suburbs of Maryland and now headquartered in Annapolis, according to the company. It says it currently operates more than 120 locally owned locations across seven states, with multiple new restaurants in its development pipeline, per the same company announcement touting its inclusion on the 2026 Franchise Times Top 400 list, which ranks franchise brands by global systemwide sales.
The chain has continued to expand elsewhere this year, too. The MoCo Show reported that Ledo Pizza marked its 71st anniversary in 2026 by opening a new restaurant at 47A Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, adding to what the outlet described as the brand's growing presence along the Delaware coast alongside a Corner Shoppe inside a Giant Food and two other locations serving the Ocean View, Bethany Beach and Millville area. The chain is known for its rectangular pizzas, with a flaky, biscuity crust, sweet tomato sauce and smoked provolone cheese, the MoCo Show reports.
For now, the Georgia Avenue banner near Howard University remains just that: a banner, with no confirmed opening date, ownership details, or lease status attached to it. PoPville says it plans to provide updates as more information becomes available, and neighbors curious about the former car-rental site's next chapter will likely be watching the same storefront for answers.
