A life-size Tyrannosaurus rex will roam the crowd at Birmingham's BJCC North Exhibit Hall this weekend as Jurassic Quest sets up its traveling prehistoric world, with roaring, walking dinosaurs and attractions that include baby dinosaurs and fossil digs for kids ages 2 to 10. The touring exhibit runs Friday through Sunday, October 16-18, with hours stretching from early morning to evening depending on the day. Families looking for a Halloween-season outing won't have to travel far, since this stop is marked as a Halloween-themed date on the event's national tour.
Three Prehistoric Worlds Under One Roof
According to AL.com, the exhibit takes place at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North, and features dinosaur exhibits that can move, roar or walk through the hall. The event's own listing on jurassicquest.com describes three separate experiences to stomp through, including a prehistoric sea featuring a giant Megalodon and a glowing underwater scene. A third zone, described by AL.com as the Frozen Frontier and Ancient Oceans, features woolly mammoths, dire wolves, saber-toothed cats and prehistoric marine reptiles alongside the dinosaur displays.
Every ticket covers admission to all three experiences, plus the baby dinosaurs, raptor training, fossil digs, crafts and the Tricera-TOTs soft play area, per the event's official page. The exhibit also includes baby dinosaurs and dinosaur trainers.
Hours, Admission and a Quieter Morning Option
Sunday hours are listed as 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are available through the Jurassic Quest website. Guests may stay and play as long as they like after entering.
Families seeking a lower-stimulation visit have an option baked into the Saturday schedule. The event offers a sensory-friendly hour every Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m., with the lights up, the sound turned down and smaller crowds moving through the hall, per the official event listing.
Birmingham's Second Round With the Roaming Herd
This isn't Jurassic Quest's first trip to the BJCC. A previous stop brought the exhibit to the complex from Aug. 9-11, 2024, when WBRC described an expanded herd of life-like moving and roaring dinosaurs alongside themed rides, live dinosaur shows and interactive science and art activities.
Birmingham is just one of many tour stops this season. Jurassic Quest's official schedule lists 27 dates for its 2026-27 tour, and the company says it regularly adds new cities, encouraging fans to check back for updates. For now, Birmingham families have a three-day window to walk among the dinosaurs.
