Four years after she vanished from her family's home on Dickens Terrace, Selena Garcia remains missing, and Gwinnett County police say they're renewing their appeal to the public for any information that might finally crack the case. Garcia was reported missing by a family member from the Lilburn residence on Oct. 23, 2022, and her disappearance remains unsolved.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, Garcia was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic woman at the time investigators detailed her case, though CBS News reports she was 24 years old when she was first reported missing. She's known to frequent the Lilburn, Norcross and Buford areas, and police describe her as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 160 pounds, with brown eyes and straight brown hair.
Garcia also has several identifying tattoos, according to the police department's release: a dark green marijuana plant on top of her hand, the number “503” across the fingers of her right hand, and the name “Maria” on the outside of her wrist. Those markings have remained part of the public description police have circulated in the years since she disappeared.
Leads Have Dried Up, But the Search Continues
As of Oct. 23, 2024, Gwinnett County police said investigators had hit a wall. “All leads to date have been exhausted,” the department said in its release. Despite that, detectives have kept the case in front of the public, with 11Alive reporting that police said, “Detectives have exhausted all leads in this case and are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
CBS News, which first reported on the renewed four-year appeal, noted that Garcia's disappearance remains unsolved and that detectives are still seeking information to help locate her. The station's report frames the renewed push as an effort to draw fresh attention to a case that has otherwise stalled.
A Reward Once on the Table
Earlier coverage of the case noted a financial incentive for tipsters. 11Alive reported that “Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is offering $2,000” for information that could help locate Garcia, though it's not established whether that reward remains available now. The Gwinnett County Police Department has said anonymous tipsters can still receive a cash reward for information in the case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwinnett County detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can instead call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
