A 24-year-old Lincoln County man admitted in federal court that he produced child sexual abuse material involving an underage girl, after investigators traced a handful of flagged files back to his online account and then to his own residence. Michael Anthony Lynch pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of producing child pornography and one count of receiving child pornography, with a recommended 18-year prison sentence now on the table.
The case began with a CyberTipline report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning three files containing child sexual abuse material that had been detected in one of Lynch's online accounts, according to KTTN. Investigators then obtained court authorization to search that account and discovered additional child sexual abuse material inside it, the station reported.
Search of Lincoln County Home Turns Up More Evidence
From there, investigators searched Lynch's residence in Lincoln County and found more child sexual abuse material, along with evidence that he had produced material involving an underage girl, per the same account. Lynch pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Eastern District of Missouri, which confirmed he admitted to one count of production of child pornography and one count of receiving child pornography.
Federal prosecutors and Lynch's defense attorney have agreed to recommend an 18-year prison sentence, though that recommendation still awaits the court's final decision. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 14, 2027, the Justice Department said. The investigation was carried out jointly by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the St. Charles County Cyber Crime Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson prosecuting the case, KTTN reported.
Part of a Pattern of Similar Cases Across Missouri
Lynch's case follows a string of recent federal prosecutions across Missouri involving child sexual abuse material. In one Eastern District of Missouri case, Michael A. Huseman was found to have possessed more than 22,000 files of child sexual abuse material, 6,000 anime files depicting children being sexually abused, and more than 400 files of AI-generated child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Eastern District of Missouri.
In the Western District of Missouri, former police officer Jimmy Joe Culbertson, 68, of Callaway County, pleaded guilty in federal court to producing and possessing child sexual abuse material, per the U.S. Department of Justice, Western District of Missouri. Another Eastern District case involved Lantz D. Crawford, who recorded his sexual abuse of five girls ages 2 to 6, according to the same Eastern District office. Roy Dean Faux, 53, of Rockaway Beach, was sentenced in federal court for receiving and distributing child pornography, the Western District of Missouri said in a separate release. Most recently, the Jefferson City News-Tribune reported that a former Fulton police officer faces decades in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material, a case detailed by the Jefferson City News-Tribune earlier this month.
