A Lisbon man already listed on New York's sex offender registry as a Level 3 risk is back in custody, this time accused of sexually abusing a child. Timothy Middlemiss, 37, was arrested on charges including first-degree sexual abuse after St. Lawrence County deputies investigated a complaint filed by a parent in September.
According to WWNY, the sheriff's office received the complaint on September 3 from a parent alleging that Middlemiss had sexually abused her child. The arrest followed an investigation by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, as reported by InformNNY.
Charges Filed Against Middlemiss
Middlemiss faces first-degree sexual abuse, a Class D felony, along with misdemeanor counts of forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, per the same station's report. He was arraigned in Lisbon Town Court and is being held without bail in the county jail, according to the outlet's coverage.
After his arraignment, Middlemiss was transported to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility and turned over to correctional staff, InformNNY notes. A no-contact order of protection was also issued in favor of the juvenile involved in the case, the outlet reported.
A History of Prior Convictions
The New York State Sex Offender Registry classifies Middlemiss as a Level 3 sex offender, meaning he is considered to pose a high risk of re-offending, per WWNY's reporting. The station reports that he was convicted in 2009 of the attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl and sentenced to one to three years in prison.
He was convicted again in 2012 on a sexual abuse charge and sentenced to time served, the station's report states. No further details about the current allegations, including the juvenile's age or the nature of the alleged conduct, have been made public.
