A man was wounded in a stabbing Tuesday morning in New Orleans' Little Woods neighborhood after what police described as an argument that began while he was behind the wheel. Officers say the confrontation escalated after he pulled over to let the woman he was arguing with get out of the vehicle.
New Orleans police officers responded to the scene shortly before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Lucerne and Zenith streets, according to WGNO. Officers told the outlet that a man and a woman were arguing while he was driving his vehicle when the dispute reached a breaking point.
The man pulled over to let the woman leave the car, the station reported. Police say that is when the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the abdomen. He was wounded in the stabbing, and New Orleans police are now investigating the incident.
What Police Have Not Said
Authorities have not released the identities of either the man or the woman involved. The extent of the man's injuries, where he was taken for treatment, and whether anyone has been arrested have not been disclosed as of Tuesday's report, and the relationship between the two people involved remains unclear.
Little Woods has seen other violent incidents tied to arguments in recent years. In a separate case reported by NOLA.com, police accused a man of stabbing a 12-year-old girl in the stomach during an argument on a Saturday night in the 7800 block of Bass Street, in the same general area of the city. That earlier case also involved allegations that the man struck a woman and her two children with his car before driving off.
Other Recent Stabbings Reported Around New Orleans
New Orleans police have investigated other stabbings in different parts of the city. In one case near Central City, officers responded around 11:50 p.m. to a report of a man bleeding near Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Galvez Street, according to WDSU. That victim had been stabbed multiple times and was taken to an area hospital by EMS, the station reported. There is no indication the Central City case is connected to Tuesday's stabbing in Little Woods.
No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with Tuesday's stabbing, and police have not released a motive beyond characterizing the confrontation as an argument between the man and the woman in his vehicle. The investigation remains active.
