LL Cool J is headed to the Las Vegas Strip for an 11-show run that will plant hip-hop's origin story inside one of the city's premier concert venues. Rock the Bells: The Residency is set to open at Dolby Live at Park MGM in May 2027, with a second batch of dates following in July, bringing the genre's pioneering voice to a stage built for spectacle.

Dates, Tickets and the Venue Behind the Show

The residency includes 11 performances scheduled for May 15, 16, 19, 21 and 22, and July 9, 10, 11, 14, 16 and 17, 2027, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Pacific on Monday, Nov. 2, through Ticketmaster, the outlet reports. Live Nation Las Vegas announced the series and is presenting the shows in partnership with MGM Resorts International.

The production is billed as an all-star live experience celebrating music and moments that shaped generations, per the same report. It's framed around hip-hop's journey from New York City to worldwide influence, tracking the genre's spread far beyond the neighborhoods where it was born.

LL Cool J on Bringing the Culture Full Circle

LL Cool J, born James Todd Smith, said hip-hop began in New York neighborhoods and grew to belong to the whole world, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He also said the residency brings artists from different generations and genres together on one stage, the outlet notes. The residency is titled Rock the Bells: The Residency.

Chris Baldizan, MGM Resorts executive vice president of entertainment, said MGM Resorts is proud to collaborate with LL Cool J to debut the concept at Dolby Live, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal's reporting. The pairing puts a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee at the center of a show at Dolby Live.

A Career Spanning Five Decades

LL Cool J has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, won two Grammy Awards, and been honored by the Kennedy Center for his work as an actor, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. His career has also encompassed music and work as an actor, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

LL Cool J's album The F.O.R.C.E. (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy) was accompanied by a tour previewed by Rocket Arena as a nonstop musical mashup, with artist performances interwoven into one continuous set backed by The Roots, rather than a traditional opener-and-headliner format.

Vegas Residencies Go Global

The Dolby Live booking lands as residencies have become a dominant entertainment model well beyond the Strip. Entertainment capitals with large venues, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York, top the list for hosting them, according to KNPR. The format saves on the major expense of transporting production, people and equipment between cities, and it gives artists room to build massive stage productions that never have to be hauled around the world, the station reports.

Harry Styles performed 15 consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden in 2022 before returning for a 30-date residency there in 2026, per KNPR. Adele embarked on a 10-date Munich residency in 2024, while Celine Dion's Las Vegas residencies grossed $681.3 million across 1,141 performances over 16 years, the station notes. Bad Bunny's 31-date Puerto Rico residency reportedly generated more than $200 million and was credited with boosting the island's economy.

Hip-hop has already staked its own claim on the Strip's residency scene. Jeezy launched his Legend of the Snowman residency at Planet Hollywood's PH Live in May, an initial 10-show run that expanded by 11 dates and then by another nine, according to Las Vegas Weekly. That show, which uses roughly 50 musicians a night across a 29-song set split into three acts, has been described as the longest-running hip-hop residency in Las Vegas history. LL Cool J's Rock the Bells run now joins that lineage, giving Dolby Live its own chapter in hip-hop's Strip takeover.
