A teacher and softball coach at Loganville Christian Academy has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Katie McDevitt, 28, was booked into jail last Thursday, and the school says it had already placed her on administrative leave weeks earlier once officials learned of an investigation into her conduct.
Monroe Local later reported on the arrest, attributing the information that jail records showed McDevitt was booked on October 15 to 11Alive. The outlet reported that WCSO arrested McDevitt and charged her with sexual exploitation of a minor, though the agency has not released additional details about the allegations. 11Alive also reported on the case, identifying the educator as a teacher at a metro Atlanta Christian academy accused of grooming a 15-year-old who played on her travel softball team.
School Says Student Involved Was Not Enrolled at LCA
According to the Monroe Local report, Loganville Christian Academy said the investigation centered on inappropriate communication with a minor who was not a student at the school. The school said it moved quickly once it was notified, placing McDevitt on administrative leave immediately rather than waiting for the criminal case to develop. That timeline, per the same account, traces back to late September, weeks before her arrest.
The school’s statement, as relayed by the local outlet, stopped short of detailing the nature of the alleged communication or how it came to the attention of administrators. The report notes that an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction, and no information has emerged publicly about McDevitt’s custody status, bond, legal representation, or a court date.
Part of a Wider Pattern at Christian School Athletics Programs
McDevitt’s arrest follows other cases this year involving coaches at Christian schools in the region. Earlier in 2026, a former Lanier Christian Academy teacher and football coach, Joel Ernest Lulinski, was charged with 27 felony counts after authorities alleged he used a device to record underneath or through students’ clothing, according to CBS News. Investigators said all of the alleged victims were female students at the academy who were under 16 at the time.
That case began on April 2, 2026, when one of the alleged victims reported her suspicions to school officials, CBS News reported. Lulinski was taken into custody on April 16 and held at the Hall County Jail on a $175,500 bond, per the same report. Separately, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a federal grand jury indicted former Barrington Christian Academy teacher and athletics coach Sean Cassidy on a five-count indictment that included coercion and enticement of a minor and sexual exploitation charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.
Those cases are unrelated to the allegations against McDevitt and do not establish any connection between the schools or defendants. No further details have been released about the specific allegations McDevitt faces, her relationship to the minor named in the Walton County investigation, or whether she remains employed by Loganville Christian Academy.
