Luftgekühlt 12 brings its air-cooled Porsche showcase to Town at Trilith in Fayetteville this Saturday, marking the event’s first visit to the American South. The one-day gathering spans historic, preserved and modified cars, with a program that also spotlights Porsche racing history and a car connected to the film Le Mans.
Racing history and a film connection
The racing-car displays link the event to several anniversaries. Magneto reports that five Porsche 935s will be shown in recognition of the model’s 50th anniversary, alongside four cars marking 120 years of the Targa Florio. FOX 5 Atlanta reports that a 1970 Porsche used in the making of Steve McQueen’s 1971 film Le Mans will be part of a Hollywood South exhibit inside Trilith LIVE.
That film exhibit sits within a state with a substantial screen-production industry, though statewide figures do not describe activity at this particular venue. The Office of Governor Brian P. Kemp reported that film and television productions spent $4.4 billion in Georgia in fiscal year 2022, then a state record. That figure offers broader context for the exhibit, not a measure of Luft 12 or Trilith.
A focused showcase in Fayetteville
Luftgekühlt centers on Porsche models from the air-cooled era rather than covering classic cars generally. Organizers say the Fayetteville display will include cars in a range of conditions and configurations, from original examples to modified builds. The gathering is the series’ 12th edition. Magneto has reported that previous editions were staged at Road Atlanta; this year’s event is at Town at Trilith.
Entry and event details
General admission begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, while premium-ticket holders can enter at 9 a.m., according to Hemmings. A welcome party is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday. Children under 12 can attend without a general-admission ticket when accompanied by a paying adult. Organizers say the event will proceed rain or shine and warn that parking is limited, advising visitors to carpool or use rideshare. Further event information is available from Luftgekühlt.
The Georgia production figure is from the Office of Governor Brian P. Kemp’s 2022 announcement.
