A 31-year-old man was shot near a McDonald's in Seattle's Mount Baker neighborhood Sunday night, then walked several blocks before reaching the 2300 block of 25th Avenue South, where he was found and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The shooting was first reported around 8:32 p.m.
Seattle police are investigating the shooting, according to KIRO 7 News Seattle, which reported that the wounded man made his way to the 2300 block of 25th Avenue South after being shot before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center. FOX 13 Seattle reported a separate Monday-afternoon shooting near Rainier Avenue South and South Walden Street, where officers located a man with a gunshot wound.
A Separate Monday-Afternoon Incident
FOX 13 reported that multiple schools were briefly locked down as police searched for multiple suspects in a separate Monday-afternoon incident, not the October 25 shooting. The station said no suspect description was available in that separate incident. FOX 13 also reported that the victim in the Monday-afternoon incident was reportedly uncooperative with police.
The circumstances of the shooting remain murky. No suspect has been named, no motive has been established, and no arrest has been announced. The victim's name and exact injuries remain unknown; his condition was listed as stable.
Mount Baker Shooting Comes Amid Falling Countywide Gun Violence
The shooting lands in a county where shots-fired incidents have actually been trending down. King County recorded 204 shots-fired incidents in the first quarter of 2026, a 28% drop from the same period in 2025 and the lowest first-quarter total since 2020, according to KOMO News. Officials also recorded nine fatal shooting victims and 42 nonfatal victims during that same quarter, the station reported.
Compared with 2024, total shots-fired incidents fell by 54% and fatal shootings decreased by 61% from their highest recent levels, per the same KOMO account. Of the 51 people shot in King County during the first quarter, about 67% were identified as Black or African American and 84% were male. Seattle still accounted for roughly 49% of all county shootings in that period, while south King County made up about 44%.
Mount Baker has seen gun violence before. In February, Seattle police arrested two teenage boys, ages 16 and 17, following a shooting in the neighborhood and recovered a modified handgun, according to the Seattle Police Department Blotter. Earlier this month, detectives also investigated a drive-by shooting in south Seattle that injured a woman and killed a man, the department noted in a separate post on its blotter.
