A man was shot multiple times early Tuesday morning outside a hotel in Midtown Atlanta, and police say the suspect who pulled the trigger didn’t even flee the scene. William Perry was taken into custody Thursday, two days after the shooting unfolded near the Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta Midtown/Georgia Tech, according to investigators.

Officers were called around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to the area of 1041 West Peachtree Street NE, which is the address of the Residence Inn, according to Atlanta News First. The man who was shot was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.

Investigators determined that the suspect shot the victim during a dispute, though the station’s report does not detail what the argument was about. Notably, police said Perry stayed at the scene of the shooting and was interviewed by officers that same night — an interaction that happened well before his arrest two days later.

Charges Expected As Investigation Continues

The Atlanta Police Department said charges against Perry will be filed soon, though the specific charges have not yet been announced. The shooting remains under investigation, per the same account, and no additional details about the victim’s condition have been released beyond his transport to Grady.

The arrest comes amid a string of separate shootings reported in and around Midtown this year. In July, a 27-year-old man was shot at 848 Peachtree Street NE in a case that remained under investigation without a publicly announced suspect, as Hoodline previously reported. A 20-year-old man was also injured in September when gunfire struck the car he was riding in near 100 13th Street NE, and police had not described any suspects in that case at the time.

A Neighborhood Where Violent Crime Has Been Falling

Those incidents sit against a backdrop of declining crime overall in the district. Citywide homicides fell 48% in early 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to Atlanta Police Department statistics cited in Hoodline’s earlier coverage of a road-rage shooting near the Four Seasons, and overall crime in Atlanta fell 7% in 2025.

Within the 1.2-square-mile Midtown Improvement District specifically, overall crime fell 10% in 2025 compared with the year before, dropping from 790 crimes to 709, according to a year-end report from the Midtown Alliance. That district has also seen crime fall 53% over the past five years, and 2025 marked its second-lowest number of violent crimes on record, the report states. Only 15 violent crimes in the district last year were classified as stranger-on-stranger incidents, per the same report, a distinction that matters given that Tuesday’s shooting has been described by investigators as stemming from a dispute rather than a random encounter.

Other violent incidents have also touched the neighborhood in recent months. In February, four men were wounded in a late-night shooting inside a residential tower at 903 Peachtree Street NE, and a fatal shooting on 14th Street NW near Georgia Tech was reported just weeks before the September road-rage shooting, according to Hoodline’s earlier reporting. The shooting at the Residence Inn remains under investigation, and police have not said whether it is connected to any of these other cases.
