A man was left in critical condition after a shooting off Raines Road in Memphis Thursday night, and police say they now have one person detained as they work to piece together what happened. Officers rushed to the scene near East Raines Road and Bonnie Drive just before 8:15 p.m. after a call reporting gunfire.
According to Action News 5, officers found the man in critical condition upon arriving at the scene. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, and police said they are actively investigating the incident.
One Person Detained as Investigation Continues
Police said one person has been detained in connection with Thursday's shooting, though the station's report does not specify that individual's identity or whether charges have been filed. The victim's identity has also not been released.
The shooting marks at least the third time in recent years that gunfire has struck near the same stretch of road. In December 2025, officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of Raines Road and found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Memphis Police Department. That case eventually led to a juvenile being charged with second-degree murder, along with Bobby Northington and Michael Boddie, who were indicted on the same charge; police said at the time that one suspect remained unidentified as the investigation continued.
Pattern of Shootings Near Raines Road
The area has seen other violent incidents in recent months and years. In July, a man was detained and two others were critically injured after an altercation at a Whitehaven convenience store that reportedly started over someone cutting in line, per the same outlet's coverage. Back in 2023, Memphis police investigated an aggravated assault near East Raines Road and Brockgreen Drive that also left one victim in critical condition.
No further details on a motive, weapon, or the circumstances leading up to Thursday's shooting have been released. Police have not said whether additional arrests or charges are expected as the investigation moves forward.
