A man is dead after officers responded to a shooting call on Garden Walk Boulevard in Clayton County, where they found him suffering from gunshot injuries at the scene. He later died from those wounds, and as of now, police have not released his identity, his age, or any details about what led to the violence.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the shooting occurred at the 1000 block of Garden Walk Boulevard, based on an official statement issued by the Clayton County Police Department. The department described the investigation as active and ongoing, and said further details will be released as they become available. No information about a possible suspect or a motive has been shared publicly.
Separate Report Describes an Unidentified Victim on a Different Block
A separate report, also from fox5atlanta.com, described a Garden Walk Boulevard shooting on the 600 block, a detail that does not match the location given in the police statement above. In that account, officers found one male victim with a gunshot wound who remained unidentified because he carried no identification — the outlet noted that the victim did not have any ID and was still unknown at the time. It is not established whether this account and the case described in the police statement are the same incident.
That same report added that no suspects were in custody at the time, and that police had not said what led up to the violence, with the investigation still ongoing. The inconsistency between the two block numbers has not been resolved in any available account, and this article does not attempt to pick one over the other.
A 2019 Cold Case on the Same Street Was Solved Earlier This Year
Garden Walk Boulevard has seen gun violence before. Back on September 9, 2019, Clayton County officers received calls about gunfire in the area of Garden Walk Boulevard in College Park, according to wsbtv.com. That shooting left Bobbie Jackson arriving at Southern Regional Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds; he later died from his injuries.
The 2019 case went cold until earlier in 2023, when detectives received new information and an eyewitness account that helped identify a suspect, the station reported. Travaughn Gordon was ultimately charged with armed robbery, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime in connection with Jackson's death. That case is distinct from the current investigation and should not be confused with it.
For now, the identity of the man killed in the more recent shooting remains unknown, and no suspect has been named. Clayton County police have said they will release more information as it becomes available, leaving residents along Garden Walk Boulevard waiting for answers about what happened and why.
