A man was fighting for his life Wednesday night after a car crash in North Memphis left him in critical condition. Officers were called to the scene just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ayers Street and North Parkway, where they found him badly hurt before he was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to Action News 5, Memphis Police responded to the crash at that intersection and found the man already in critical condition. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, though no update on his condition has been released since. Police have not identified him publicly.
Investigation Still Underway
Memphis Police are actively investigating the crash, per the same report, though key details remain unclear. The cause of the collision, whether another vehicle was involved, and any information about drivers or witnesses have not been disclosed. No citations or arrests connected to this crash have been announced.
The circumstances echo other serious crashes that have unfolded on Memphis roads this year. In April, a two-vehicle crash at East Shelby Drive and Kirby Parkway left three people injured, including two in critical condition, according to FOX13 Memphis. Police in that case said one driver ran a red light and struck another car, and that driver was arrested after refusing to sign a traffic citation. The second driver was cited for driving without insurance and without proper seat restraints.
A Pattern Across Memphis Intersections
Memphis has grappled with dangerous intersections before. A 2023 report found that three of the city's five most fatal intersections so far that year were located in South Memphis, according to the Commercial Appeal. No crash statistics specific to Ayers Street and North Parkway have been made available in connection with Wednesday's incident.
For now, the man's identity, the cause of the crash, and his current condition remain unknown. Police have not released further details as the investigation continues.
