A man was found dead in a Tucker neighborhood Sunday evening after residents reported hearing possible gunshots, and police say the circumstances of his death are still being sorted out. Officers arrived to find him unresponsive, rendered first aid, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported.
Gwinnett County police officers responded to calls of possible gunshots around 6 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Preston Lake Drive, according to a report citing preliminary details given by Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Ryall Choate during a media briefing at the scene. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive man and rendered first aid, but he could not be saved, as detailed by FOX 5 Atlanta. The station reported that police have not yet confirmed the man was shot to death or released any information about his identity.
A separate account from WSB-TV offers a different detail about where officers found him: that station reported that when officers arrived, they found a man shot in the apartment complex parking lot. Police haven't identified a suspect or the victim, the outlet's report notes, leaving open questions about exactly how and where the shooting unfolded.
Investigators Comb Scene, Review Surveillance Footage
Detectives, crime scene investigators and the medical examiner were processing the scene and interviewing witnesses in the hours after the discovery, per the Fox 5 Atlanta report. Homicide detectives were also interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area, according to 11Alive.
Police said the incident appears isolated and does not pose an immediate threat to the public, the same Fox 5 Atlanta account states. Authorities are continuing to comb the area for evidence, according to the WSB-TV report, which also noted that investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
A Pattern of Violence in the Same Area
This is not the first deadly shooting Gwinnett County police have investigated in Tucker in recent memory. In August, police said they discovered 29-year-old Ty'shawn Frank dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a Tucker residence, and investigators went on to identify 28-year-old Loren Tademy as a suspect, per Fox 5 Atlanta's earlier coverage. Tademy was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and theft by taking in that case.
Back in October 2024, Gwinnett County police arrested 26-year-old Aaron Guillen in connection with a fatal shooting at the Gwinnett Station Circle apartments in Tucker, according to Atlanta News First. Police identified the victim in that case as 24-year-old Marianna Guillen and described it as a domestic-related incident between people who knew each other. That same Atlanta News First report cited an Online Crime Mapping tally of 84 crimes within a one-mile radius of the apartment complex in question during the preceding month.
In yet another Tucker-area case, a man was reportedly shot multiple times in an apartment breezeway on Gladeview Parkway and taken to a hospital, per 11Alive. None of those earlier incidents are known to be connected to Sunday's death on Preston Lake Drive, but together they underscore how frequently Gwinnett County investigators have had to respond to gun violence in and around Tucker's apartment communities over the past two years.
No arrests have been announced in Sunday's case, and police have not released the victim's name. Detectives continue to process the scene as the investigation moves forward.
