A man was shot and killed outside a condominium complex in southwest Houston on Monday night. Officers responded to a shooting call around 10:15 p.m. in the 12500 block of Sandpiper, where they found a man who did not survive.
According to Houston Stringer, the shooting happened outside in a common area of the complex, and firefighters described the victim as likely being in his 40s.
The Houston Police Department reported that a man in his 40s was found dead after a shooting in southwest Houston, and Click2Houston says family members identified him as a 46-year-old Black man. Houston Stringer, however, reported that the victim had not been identified as of its report, and that police did not know whether he lived at the complex. The two accounts differ on identification, and neither has been independently reconciled.
The investigation continued.
Click2Houston reports that the investigation remains ongoing, with no further updates on an arrest or official identification as of publication.
Sandpiper Drive's History of Violence
This is not the first fatal shooting reported in the immediate area. In January 2023, Houston police investigated a fatal shooting at 12100 Sandpiper Drive, with the victim's identity pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to a Houston Police Department press release. And in April 2017, police reported a fatal shooting at 12500 Sandpiper itself, the same address as Monday's shooting, identifying the victim in that case as Crystal Rose, 27, per an earlier department notice. Charges were later filed against Terry Eugene Thomas in that 2017 case, according to a follow-up police release. It has not been established whether Monday's shooting is connected in any way to those earlier incidents.
A Citywide Decline in Violence
Monday's shooting comes against the backdrop of a broader drop in violent crime across Houston. The city recorded 95 homicides in the first half of 2026, down 38% from 154 during the same period in 2025, according to Axios, citing Major Cities Chiefs Association data. Other violent crime categories also fell through the first half of the year, with robberies down nearly 27%, aggravated assaults down more than 17%, and rape cases down about 20%, per the same report.
Anyone with information about Monday's shooting is encouraged to contact Houston police as the investigation continues. No arrests or charges had been announced as of Tuesday.
